Karir

Penampilan pertama Orlando Bloom di layar lebar, ternyata hanyalah sebuah peran kecil, menjadi salah seorang PSK muda, di film Wilde 1997. Kemudian, tak lama setelah lulus sekolah drama pada tahun 1999, Bloom mendapatkan peran besar pertamanya, sebagai Legolas di trilogi film The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003).

Kesuksesan trilogi LOTR telah merubah peruntungan Bloom dari aktor yang tak dikenal menjadi salah satu selebriti terkenal. Di tahun 2002, laki-laki ganteng ini terpilih sebagai salah satu 25 Hottest Star Under 25 dari Teen People dan pada tahun 2004, menjadi Hottest Hollywood Bachelor versi majalah People. Berdasarkan poll yang dilakukan Sky Movies, Bloom juga terpilih sebagai pria yang para wanita ingin cium di bawah pohon mistletoe.

Biografi

Bloom lahir di Canterbury, Kent. Ibunya, Sonia Constance Josephine Copeland, lahir di Calcutta, India, putri dari Betty Constance Josephine Walker and Francis John Copeland, seorang dokter dan ahli bedah;^[1] . Keluarga-keluarga nenek dari ibu Bloom tersebar di Tasmania, Australia dan India, dan mereka semua orang Inggris asli, bahkan beberapa diantaranya kelahiran Kent^[1]. Bloom pernah diberitahu kalau ayahnya adalah seorang pengacara Yahudi kelahiran Afrika Selatan, Harry Saul Bloom, tapi begitu beranjak dewasa dan setelah meninggalnya Harry, ibunya kemudian baru mengakui bahwa ayah biologis Bloom sebenarnya adalah Colin Stone, yang merupakan teman dari keluarganya. Sonia mengatakan kalau ia mengambil nama untuk putranya ini dari nama seorang komposer terkenal abad ke-17, Orlando Gibbons,^[1]. Orlando mempunyai seorang kakak perempuan yang juga berprofesi sebagai aktor, Samantha Bloom, yang lahir pada tahun 1975.
